Having been down at Ground Zero shortly after the terror attacks, and having volunteered for months afterward feeding the recovery workers, I am feeling very relieved.
However, I have a friend who is a therapist who works at Mount Sinai in NYC. She works for a project which treats the firemen and police officers who worked at Ground Zero. They are suffering from horrendous PTSD. In many in some cases, she says, their symptoms are life threatening.
I know many Ayres victims suffer from PTSD and many of them refuse to get help. Let me say that there are many fine psychiatrists out there who would be willing to treat you. You just have to have a leap of faith.
