The document below is a filing by ayres' defense attorney in one of the civil cases against him indicating that he is too busy rotting in hell to attend any future court dates.
(CIV467273,)

Dr. Doe in the document is william ayres.  (You can verify this for yourself by pouring through the attachments to the civil cases against ayres, as there are glitches in redaction and citations that clearly identify ayres as the "Dr. Doe" in question.)

UPDATE:
There is also confirmation from Karen Guidotti, second in command at the San Molesteo County DA's office.

Michael Stogner received this from Guidotti this morning in response to his query:

  1. Confirmed by Karen Guidotti in the DA's office. Ayres died three weeks ago but not a single victim was notified. Disgusting.

  2. Wagstaffe notified the press about a man no one's ever heard of who died in the San Mateo jail of a heart attack, but not about the death of one of the most prolific child molesters in recent California history.

    Jail inmate dies in custody
A 44-year-old jail inmate awaiting trial on two separate rock cocaine possession cases died apparently of natural causes Thursday morning in the medical ward of Maguire Correctional Facility. Robert Maurice Shepard was pronounced dead after his cell mate called "man down” at 6:30 a.m. The cause of death appears to natural — probably a heart attack — but an autopsy to confirm the assumption is still pending, said Coroner Robert Foucrault. "There doesn’t appear to be any foul play,” Foucrault said. Shepard, who was housed in the jail’s medical ward, reportedly complained of back pain on Wednesday and began vomiting that night. His vitals were checked and an EKG performed about 9:30 p.m. Shepard appeared at the morning count at 6 a.m. but was discovered by a cell mate a short time later. The cell mate told authorities Shepard did not sleep the previous night. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death. Shepard was scheduled for a Superior Court arraignment on one drug case July 27 and prior to his death prosecutors expected it would be consolidated with the previous drug case. On June 21, Shepard was arrested on charges of possession for sale and sale of rock cocaine. He posted $40,000 bail July 2 but was arrested that same day on the same charges, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. He was in custody on that case in lieu of $50,000 bail. Shepard had a long history of convictions in San Mateo County, dating from 1986, Wagstaffe said. Twice he went to prison on drug convictions. - See more at: http://www.smdailyjournal.com/articles/lnews/2007-07-20/jail-inmate-dies-in-custody/77986.html#sthash.zrjAksee.dpuf

  6. San Francisco Examiner, May 12, 2016:

Former San Mateo psychiatrist convicted of molestation dies at prison hospice

Former San Mateo psychiatrist and convicted child molester William Ayres died last month in a hospice at California Medical Facility, a state prison medical center in Vacaville, according to the Solano County coroner’s office.

Ayres, 84, was pronounced dead of natural causes at 12:38 a.m. on April 20, a coroner’s office spokesperson said. He was under a doctor’s care, was not brought to the coroner’s office and there was no autopsy, the spokesperson said.

Ayres was sentenced to eight years in prison in August 2013 for molesting five boys who came to him for counseling in the 1990s. He pleaded no contest in May 2013, soon after his second trial started, to eight counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.

The first trial in 2009 ended in a hung jury. He was arrested on April 6, 2007.

Prosecutors said the victims — between 9 and 13 at the time — were fondled during “medical” examinations during the counseling sessions between 1991 and 1996.

Ayres treated children between the 1960s to 2006 and evaluated hundreds of cases, including some involving sex offenders, in San Mateo County juvenile court as the 1970s, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors identified 45 other alleged victims but the statute of limitations prevented his prosecution in those cases.
