Trial Continued until 2pm Today

Continued until 2pm TODAY.

ayres' competency trial has been continued until 2pm TODAY.
There was no apparent reason given.

ayres was not present in the courtroom, out on his 977 waiver as usual. (Document saying that he doesn't need to be present for proceedings that are just court business aspects of the trial.)

There is a blog item in the San Francisco Examiner today. Nothing new though.

  1. The Associated Press did a small blurb:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—A former prominent child psychiatrist accused of molesting his patients is due back in court for a competency hearing to determine if he is ready to be retried.

District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe says jury selection is scheduled Monday for the hearing on Dr. William Ayres' mental health. A previous competency trial was put on hold in January amid concerns about the 79-year-old psychiatrist's dementia.

Ayres is charged with molesting seven male patients under the guise of conducting physical exams during counseling sessions.
More than 30 other former patients also alleged being fondled by Ayres, but he was not charged in those cases because of how long ago they occurred.
A mistrial was declared in Ayres' first trial two years ago after the jury deadlocked on all counts.

  2. Why does this not surprise me. Odds on nothing happening at 2:00 today?

  3. At some point the court will have to shit or get off the pot.

The courts are mostly full of shit.

But they probably have a reserve tank.

  4. Rod R. Blagojevich's FIRST federal corruption trial ended more than a YEAR AFTER AYRES' trial and yet his SECOND trial is well underway, only eight months later.

First Ayres trial: ended July 2009

First Blagojevich trial: ended August 2010.

Ayres' second criminal trial: NO DATE scheduled

Blogojevich second criminal trial: STARTED April, 2011, only eight months after the first.

Is the San Mateo DA's office really that incompetent, or are they just ambivalent about trying the case at all?

    Can we pick both?
