The Pre-Trial Hearing TODAY:
December 23, 2008 at 8:45AM

GO There!

Updates will be posted TODAY ASAP.
More to follow as I get information....

  1. Please let us know how it goes. We have always wondered whether Dr. Ayres' cane is just a sympathy prop.

  2. Haven't seen the creep around, perhaps the press and these blogs are just too much for the old geezer (molester). Let's hope the pre-trial hearing is a success and puts this creep away for life.

  3. It would be OK with me if the stress kills him before he's sentenced.

Either locked up or dead is good to keep him off the streets hunting for boys in parks, or downtown picking up underaged "sex workers." (At least that's what I imagine he must be doing, but I'm not a professional molester, so I can't think of any other good avenues to torture innocent children. Probably there are lots more.)

  4. Can't imagine that Dr. Ayres could go cold turkey after that 40-plus years habit.

Perhaps he is trolling for boys on the internet. Perhaps he is taking secret hunting trips into San Francisco.

It must be driving him crazy not to have that unbridled access to boys and power. He's probably taking out his frustration by being difficult with Solveig.

  5. Melissa McKowan told the mother of a victim that the pre-trial hearing has been postponed until a date to be determined.

Note to San Mateo District Attorney's office: you better start pushing that little ole judge for a date - otherwise you're going to lose more important witnesses like Dr. Hugh Ridlehuber.

  6. Is Ridlehuber on his last legs? He lives on Chapin Lane in Burlingame, his wife is much younger. She is always in the Burlingame Post Office. I saw Ridlehuber driving a relatively new Toyota Highlander. Would he actually come forward, I believe he stated once he was stunned by the accusations.

  7. Maybe Weinberg isn't really ill, but just can't face the music ? Now that the search warrant stays in, what's he gonna do ?

  8. Ridlehuber, Ayres' former partner, died in a motorcycle crash.

One of Ayres' victims did as well.

  9. I am surprised Ridlehuber would take to riding a motorcycle at age 74! What's up with these shrinks. I saw him a few months back and he looked ok which is why it surprised me that he died. My friend and I walk our dogs past his house on Chapin.....fate, karma or just plain bad luck for ole Hugh.....

  10. The obituary of Ridlehuber mentions he was to be called by the prosecution.

  11. BURLINGAME — Dr. Hugh Winston Ridlehuber decided to become a physician at the age of 4 after nearly dying from typhoid fever.

During the next 70 years, he earned a reputation as a respected child psychologist, a friend with a hilarious sense of humor and a devoted family man. That's how friends and associates remember the Burlingame resident, who died Oct. 8.

Ridlehuber was riding one of his three BMW motorcycles on Oct. 4 when he "either took his eyes off the road or lost control" of the bike, according to his daughter, Amy Kingsley, 33. The accident took place on Woodside Road near Skyline Boulevard in unincorporated San Mateo County.

Ridlehuber was taken to Stanford Hospital for treatment, but doctors' efforts to save his life were unsuccessful and he died last Wednesday.

Ridlehuber made significant contributions to San Mateo County through his clinical work and won an Outstanding Citizen Award in 1986 for his assistance to the Belmont Police Department in the arrest of a serial killer.

Pam Ridlehuber, 66, said her husband of 34 years — born and raised in Greenwood, S.C., — was a Southern gentleman who slipped easily back into his native drawl.

"They remember his great sense of humor, his compassion and that he was such a strong advocate for his patients with special needs," she said of the people who came across her husband during his 40 years on the Peninsula. "He was a gifted healer, and they

    remember his optimism and gentleness."

Ridlehuber's award-winning career in psychology began in 1959, when he received his license to practice medicine. He ran several child and adult health care programs in both South Carolina and San Mateo County, the destination of his 1967 migration to California. In 1970, Ridlehuber joined a private practice known as Peninsula Psychiatric Associates. One of his associates there was a renowned child psychiatrist named William Ayres. Ayres, 76, was arrested in 2007 and is awaiting trial on charges of child molestation.

Having worked alongside Ayres for about 15 years, Ridlehuber was expected to be called by the prosecution as a peripheral witness, testifying to statements he'd heard Ayres make several years ago, said Steve Wagstaffe, the county's chief deputy district attorney.

Wagstaffe said he was "very sorry" to hear of Ridlehuber's death. The absence of Ridlehuber's testimony will not damage the prosecution's case, he said.

Ridlehuber enjoyed a sterling reputation with his clients, according to friends and family members. He would often allow his patients to exceed their 50-minute session limit, sitting with them for two or three hours if they needed him, his daughter recalled.

"He just touched so many people," Kingsley said. "So many people would come up to me when he was around and say, 'Your dad changed my life.' He would have the ability to make that person feel like they were the most special person in the world. Dad became their dad, or their uncle, or just that person they needed to care about them."

Though Ridlehuber's specialty was in attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, he took time from his practice in the mid-1980s to help Belmont police hunt for a serial killer. Jon Dunkle, who admitted in 1986 to the murder of three young boys, is still in prison awaiting execution.

"He provided psychological consulting services to us, (advising us about) what type of person we should be looking for," said Belmont police Lt. Pat Halleran, who never knew Ridlehuber personally yet released a sad moan at the news of his death. "He was a big asset to the investigation, and we really appreciated his help."

Though Ridlehuber suffered from several serious health conditions, including a heart ailment, Kingsley described her father as fearless, never turning down an activity. An avid boater and kayaker, Ridlehuber also loved hiking and even rappelled down a cliff in his 60s.

Kingsley said her father was at her new home in San Mateo every weekend, working with her husband on everything from rewiring the house to sawing down tree limbs for the deck. Bill Tatomer, a psychiatrist and friend of Ridlehuber's since 1971, said the highest rating on the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale, a numeric scale used to assess the functioning of adults, best describes his friend.

"Sought by other because of his many positive qualities," Tatomer said. "That's Hugh."

In addition to his wife Pam and daughter Amy, Ridlehuber is survived by two sons — Hal Ridlehuber, 48, of Redding; and David Ridlehuber, 30, of Sunnyvale — and two grandchildren: Tawny Ridlehuber, 21, and Russell Ridlehuber, 19.

A celebration of Ridlehuber's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Congregational Church of San Mateo, located at 225 Tilton Ave. Donations can be made to the Dr. Hugh W. Ridlehuber Memorial Scholarship at Notre Dame High School, 1540 Ralston Ave., Belmont

  12. I heard that Ayres and all of his partners smoked pot back in the sixties and seventies. Who knows- maybe Dr. Ayres smoked with some of his juvenile clients ?

  13. Pre trial hearing: December 23, 2008 at 8:45 am.

  14. The trial has been moved to April. Don't know the exact date yet.

  15. Weinberg, apparently is trying all sorts of stall tactics. You just know he wasn't "ill" on October 14, date of pre-trial hearing. He was just stalling. I agree with the judge who felt "antipathy" towards Slimeberg.

On the bright side, the delay means that Ayres will be shelling out more of his money and that his license will continued to be suspended.... for good. Wonder what it's like to have all that so-called power taken away from him.

  16. Pediatrician is Accused of Sexual Abuse of Boy, 13

What is this, an epidemic ?

  17. One of the law firms Dr. Ayres has hired for one of the civil suits.

Thomas & Donnelly, specializing in medical practise. Boy what a lost cause they've taken on !! We hear that Dr. Ayres is a very difficult client.

But hey, it's forcing him to spend all that money he earned molesting boys and ruining their lives.

Bet you he never thought he would spend his twilight years running around to criminal and civil lawyers. Wonder what Solveig thinks about it all. Perhaps she will go mad, just as that character in the play she wrote about.

  18. Dr. Ayres is not nearly as clever as he thinks he is. For one thing, there are all those different stories(at least 6, by our count) he's told to various people in the last decades about his practise of giving "physicals."

When a distraught mother complained about the physicals to his partners, he merely explained to them that he had been trained to give them at Judge Baker in Boston. NOT !!! At Judge Baker, the children were given a thorough physical examination by the excellent pediatrics department. (Dr. Sam Leavitt: are you listening? Dr Ayres has given you and your wife Thea a snow job about what he was trained to do at Judge Baker. Thea told a mother of a victim not long ago that child psychiatrists "Back East were trained differently than in California." NOT !!!)

At Judge Baker, the child psychiatrists kept their hands off the kids. You will not find a single psychiatrist trained there at the same time who will vouch for Dr. Ayres' story. We also know men who were actually patients as kids at Judge Baker when Dr. Ayres was there in the 60s. When asked if their psychiatrists had ever touched them, they acted shocked at such a suggestion. Not a single patient we know of said he got a "physical" from his child psychiatrist thee. Perhaps Dr. Ayres operated by his own made-up set of rules ?

Dr. Ayres' big trouble are the other lies in his civil deposition. He states that in his entire career, he has never asked a boy patient to take his pants off!! So why was he telling his partners he did ? Dr. Ayres says that in his 40 year career, he has examined a boy perhaps four times. And that "years went by " when he did not look at any boy at all. Hope the DA is paying attention here...

Like all criminals, Dr. Ayres can't keep his lies straight. And he knows it too. No wonder he looks so waxen lately. And if you look at his mug shot on this website, his ears are hot pink. Anyone trained in facial forensics will tell you that pink ears denote a high level of guilt.

Plea bargain, anyone ? Doron Weinberg can't stall forever.. And all those civil suits going on, too. Dr. Ayres must be a busy beaver, running from management conference to civil depositions...

As someone said here, the one good thing is that he is losing all the money he made ruining the lives of poor boys. Don't expect Dr. Ayres to care about them, though. He is the classic sociopathic narcissist. One wonders if he has actually gone cold turkey off boys. One highly doubts that.....

  19. Have Dr. Ayres and Solveig signed Dr. Ridlehuber's guest book ?

Years ago, Dr. Ayres once invited Dr. Ridlehuber and his young son over for a swim.. Ugh. One shudders to think what Dr. Ayres' ulterior motive was back then.

David Gross, the victim who has posted here and on using his real name, was the son of Dr. Sheldon Gross, the pediatrician who referred hundreds of boys to Dr. Ayres. How considerate of Dr. Ayres to repay Dr. Gross's kindness by molesting his own son David.

  20. Wonder which of Doron Weinberg's client is more difficult : the gun-crazy murderer Phil Spector or the pedophile Dr. Ayres ?

It's a tough call but we're putting our money on Dr. Ayres. We hear he is a control freak par excellence.

  21. "Parents should act like a judge in the courtroom and hear children out," says Dr. William Ayres, a psychiatrist in San Mateo, California.

    -From Disney's "

Parents will be acting like a judge in a courtroom to hear you out soon enough, Dr. Ayres.

  22. Deep Sounding: Some people (not all, like a certain juvenile judge and a head of the juvenile defenders) in San Mateo give a rip about the case of Dr. Ayres.

  23. From Portrait of a Pedophile:

    * He has hobbies that are child-like such as collecting popular expensive toys, keeping reptiles or exotic pets, or building plane and car models.

Pedophiles Often Prefer Children Close to Puberty:

    * Pedophiles often have a specific age of child they target. Some prefer younger children, some older.
    * Often his environment or a special room will be decorated in child-like decor and will appeal to the age and sex of the child he is trying to entice.
    * Many pedophiles often prefer children close to puberty who are sexually inexperienced, but curious about sex.

    Pedophiles Work Around Children:
The pedophile will often be employed in a position that involves daily contact with children. If not employed, he will put himself in a position to do volunteer work with children, often in a supervisory capacity such as sports coaching, contact sport instruction, unsupervised tutoring or a position where he has the opportunity to spend unsupervised time with a child.
    The Target Child:
The pedophile often seeks out shy, handicapped, and withdrawn children, or those who come from troubled homes or under privileged homes. He then showers them with attention, gifts, taunting them with trips to desirable places like amusement parks, zoo's, concerts, the beach and other such places.
    Manipulation of the Innocent:
Pedophiles work to master their manipulative skills and often unleash them on troubled children by first becoming their friend, building the the child's self esteem. They may refer to the child as special or mature, appealing to their need to be heard and understood then entice them with adult type activities that are often sexual in content such as x-rated movies or pictures. They offer them alcohol or drugs to hamper their ability to resist activities or recall events that occurred.
    Stockholm Syndrome :
It is not unusual for the child to develop feelings for the predator and desire their approval and continued acceptance. They will compromise their innate ability to decipher good and bad behavior, ultimately justifying the criminal's bad behavior out of sympathy and concern for the adults welfare. This is often compared to Stockholm Syndrome - when victims become attached emotionally to their captors.
    The Single Parent:
Many times pedophiles will develop a close relationship with a single parent in order to get close to their children. Once inside the home, they have many opportunities to manipulate the children -- using guilt, fear, and love to confuse the child. If the child's parent works, it offers the pedophile the private time needed to abuse the child.
    Fighting Back:
Pedophiles work hard at stalking their targets and will patiently work to develop relationships with them. It is not uncommon for them to be developing a long list of potential victims at any one time. Many of them believe that what they are doing is not wrong and that having sex with a child is actually "healthy" for the child.

Almost all pedophiles have a collection of pronography, which they protect at all costs. Many of them also collect "souvenirs" from their victims. They rarely discard either their porn or collections for any reason.

One factor that works against the pedophile is that eventually the children will grow up and recall the events that occurred. Often pedophiles are not brought to justice until such time occurs and victims are angered by being victimized and want to protect other children from the same consequences.

Laws such as Megan's Law - a federal law passed in 1996 that authorizes local law enforcement agencies to notify the public about convicted sex offenders living, working or visiting their communities, have helped expose the pedophile and allows parents to better protect their children.

  24. Hey, Doron Weinberg: Did you by chance break any statutes when you scheduled your voir dires for the Phil Spector case? Were you by chance ignoring that you had a scheduled appearance in San Mateo on October 14 ? And come now, Doron- do you really think for a minute that we believe that you had suddenly taken "ill" on October 14 ?

A little birdy tells us that you are being investigated for possible violation of statutes.

Gee, we're beginning to feel some empathy for Judge Runde who announced he felt "antipathy" for you. We do too ! We are wondering how you sleep at night...There's a reason Jim Collins finally turned down Dr. Ayres' case. It appears as a former cop he didn't have the stomach to represent a child molester.

As for you Dr. Ayres, well, we're on to you.

  25. Yes, we're on to you, Dr, Ayres, and then some..

We suspect some of his family members are reading this blog. If so, then welcome ! We suspect that you have your suspicions about the good doctor as well. Think about it...41 men who don't know each other, all with the same stories ? I am sorry for the family members on whom Dr. Ayres has inflicted considerable pain, but at the same time, family members must begin to accept reality. He is wasting so much money by defending himself in a losing cause. This is not a witch hunt, as Solveig says, but a quest for justice and to honor the many victims who are in pain.

  26. Deep Souding: Some mothers of Ayres victims have taken up the cause of the ridiculous court delays.See their letter to the editor of the San Mateo Daily Journal:

Don't stop posting here. We need your voice.

  27. Description of Judge getting peeved at Weinberg acting badly at the Phil Spector trial (courtesy of the Sprocket blog)

Judge Fidler: Mr. Weinberg! Don't heave! Don't sigh! That's one thing
that pushes my buttons! [Just] because they don't like my ruling!

[Wow! Fidler is really irritated by Weinberg's facial expressions regarding
    his ruling!]

  28. Dude, I am on the trial and I look here for updates. The cops dont fill me in at all.

  29. Deep Sounding: Could you PLEASE do some new postings? Many victims check in with you regularly. This blog has been very helpful to them.

  30. Raleigh News Observer, November 25,2008:

    Doctor resigns amid molestation allegations
Dr. Mel Levine, the acclaimed Chapel Hill pediatrician who is accused of molesting patients, will leave the institute he founded to train teachers in dealing with learning disabilities.

    Drip, drip, drip.

  31. As of December 1, Ayres' pre-trial hearing is still set for December 23. This is a good opportunity for his victims to stare him down.

  32. According to the Sprocket blog, the Spector trial could very well finish up at the end of January.

  33. The trial might be in March.

  34. From Sprocket trial yesterday: re Phil Spector trial

If the prosecution puts on a rebuttal case, and I have every reason to believe that it will, this case could be settled sometime in late January, depending on what happens in the jury room.
Waddya bet Ayres is following this case closely too?

  35. "Perchance he for whom this bell tolls may be so ill, as that he knows not it tolls for him.."

-That means you, William Hamilton Ayres.

  36. Deepsounding:If you are able to attend the hearing, we hope that you can give an informal report here, the way Sprocket does for the Phil Spector trial.

  37. According to Sprocket blog, the Spector trial is not in session on December 23:

Fidler gave the jurors 2 and a half weeks off over Christmas and New Years. Next week, court is in session Tuesday, Dec 16th through Thursday December 18th.

  38. December 23 pre-trial hearing is still on but Slimeberg has filed a PC 1050 Motion to continue both the pre-trial conference and the jury trial. Even though the judge in the Spector trial has given the jury two weeks off starting December 19 which means Slimeberg has no excuse about not being there on December 23. Whether he likes it or not, the trial is coming. We think he's scared to death of that happening, because he knows the evidence against his client is damning.

  39. Weinberg is now indicating that he will be attending the December 23 pre-trial hearing.

  40. So, Deep Sounding: will you be attending the hearing? Will you give us the lowdown if you do, even though it's so close to Christmas?

  41. Sprocket, who has been observing Doron Weinberg in the Spector trial, offers these words of warning for Ayres prosecutor Melissa McKowan:

    Sprocket said...
The prosecutors in that case need to be aware that Mr. Weinberg apparently has several times promised on thing verbally and then in front of the judge will claim something else. That is what I observed in motions outside the presence of the Spector jury.

They also need to know that Mr. Weinberg will possibly deflect any motions of gamesmanship by claiming the same tactics by the prosecution. They need to be on their toes in regards to discovery.

And the thing is, he will on the surface appear "so nice" (quoting an experienced trial watcher) while he is in front of the judge.
